Job Description :
MySQL Database Service (MDS) is a fully-managed PaaS that enables organizations to deploy cloud-native applications using the world’s most popular open source database. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a set of complementary cloud services that enable customers to build and run a wide range of applications and services in a highly-available, hosted environment. OCI offers high-performance compute capabilities (as physical hardware instances) and storage capacity in a flexible overlay virtual network that is securely accessible from on-premise networks.
MDS is built, operated and supported by the staff responsible for all MySQL product development and offers its customers secure, stable and performant MySQL services on OCI for those requiring an enterprise-class solution.
Our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team plays a central role in staffing 24x7 worldwide operations and in maintaining operational tooling, infrastructure, and processes to help our extended team meet Service Level Agreements. As part of the MDS Control dev/ops team, SRE partners with a large number of Data Plane development teams to provide operational support and tooling through deployment, monitoring, change management, problem analysis, capacity management, and mitigation/remediation of issues across all deployed components of MDS.
Responsibilities :
- Design, write and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of MDS Control Plane and operational tooling
- Define and develop monitoring infrastructure for MDS
- Participate in MDS service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis and system tuning
- Participate in regular On Call rotations for MDS Dev/Ops as a central part of the 24x7 operations team
- Improve monitoring, notifications, configuration and deployment of MDS
- Perform proactive service checks and monitor/triage incoming system/application alerts, email and phone calls to ensure appropriate priority and response.
- Triage and troubleshoot service impacting events from multiple signals including phone, email, service telemetry and alerting.
- Identify and work with engineering to implement opportunities for automation, signal noise reduction, recurring issues and other actions to reduce time to mitigate service impacting events and increase the productivity of cloud operations and development resources.
- Coordination, documentation and tracking of critical incidents ensuring rapid and complete issue resolution and appropriate closed loop to customers and other key stakeholders.
- Operational duties include off-hour shifts during early morning, evening, weekend and public holiday hours on a rotating basis. The standard Oracle compensation rules for off hour shifts will apply.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Strong Experience in coding, debugging and programming in Java
- Strong experience building large-scale, distributed systems
- Monitoring & management of large-scale, distributed systems
- IaaS, PaaS and SaaS architectures, development & operations/tooling
- Expert in designing, analysing and troubleshooting large-scale, distributed systems
- Experience in Building and managing Virtualized systems (KVM, OVM, Containers/Docker) and ability to read and understand source code
- Strong development experience in DevOps tooling, such as Python, Bash, Ansible and Terraform
- Strong understanding of MySQL, NoSQL systems, storage and distributed persistence technologies.
- Very strong analytical skills to identify problem root causes
- Systematic problem solving approach, combined with a strong sense of ownership and drive
- Experience in On Call/Operations
- Experience in working under pressure to mitigate customer issues affecting service reliability, data integrity, and overall customer experience
- Experience understanding and following security best practices
Qualification :
BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent. Identifies solutions to knowledge of server hardware and software configuration, networking, standard internet services, scripting languages, cloud computing patterns, technology security and compliance. Experience running large scale customer facing web services. Identifies solutions to understanding of load balancing technologies and experience with development in programming languages, databases and big data stores, and container technologies. Work involves defining and documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products. A minimum of 5+ years experience of running large scale customer facing web services.
